Sherwood Fendryk, an elite athlete from Greene, New York, is a former New York state champion in three styles of wrestling and holds three Empire State Games titles. Graduating from Sacred Heart University as the Captain of the Wrestling Team and a 2006 NCAA Division I qualifier at 165 pounds, he was ready to move to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs to start training and competing in the international tournaments.
Those plans took a detour. On July 25th, 2007 Sherwood lost control of his motorcycle and skidded off the road and into a tree. The accident left the whole left side of his body severely injured and eventually caused them to amputate his left leg below the knee.
During Sherwood’s recovery he discovered 3 track skiing at Winter Challenge Week hosted by Greek Peak Adaptive Snowsports and because of his competitive nature, quickly developed a passion for alpine ski racing. Over the past year, Sherwood has traveled the country attending training camps and competing in alpine ski racing in pursuit of his ultimate goal and dream – to represent our country as a member of the United States Disabled Alpine Ski Team.
Sherwood’s dream takes a significant commitment involving extensive travel, training, and equipment costs. His family and friends are organizing this event to help Sherwood achieve that goal by off setting some of the costs associated with his commitment.
